NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Macalester women's cross country team was is action today in Northfield, Minn., for the Running of the Cows, hosted by Carleton. The Scots took fourth overall behind a top five finish from senior
Kimber Meyer (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North).
The race was a chance for the Scots to preview the course on which the Central Region Championships will be held in November. Carleton, the meet host, was the team champion on the women's side and Carleton alum Ruth Steinke was the individual winner in 21:52.0. The first collegian to finish was Audrey Miller of Loras who covered the 6 kilometer course in 21:55.0.
The Scots were headed up by a trio of seniors who all placed in the top 20. Meyer finished in 22:37.0 for 5th.
Sarah Jo DeVore (San Diego, Calif./Torrey Pines) was second on the team and 12th overall, coming across in 23:40.3.
Eliza Ramsey (Olympia, Wash./Capital) ran 23:46.0 to cross 16th.
Rounding out scoring for the Scots were senior
Elena Torry-Schrag (Forest Grove, Ore./Forest Grove) in 24:27.1 for 37th and junior
Lea Davidson (Walla Walla, Wash./Walla Walla), who finished 42nd in a time of 24:34.9.
"I'm really pleased with where we are as a team," said coach
Betsy Emerson. "We had a strong day top to bottom, which encourages me so much going forward."
The Scots will be back racing next weekend, October 8 at the St. Catherine's Invite.
