ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College men's track and field team kicked off the 2016 indoor season at the Alumni Meet Saturday afternoon in the Leonard Center Field House. The Scots hosted Augsburg College, which scored 72 points compared to 50 for Macalester.
All-American high jumper
Logan Hovie (Neenah, Wis./Neenah) won his specialty with a mark of 2.02 meters, narrowly missing his attempts at 2.06. Sophomore
Miles Keys McKay (Santa Cruz, Calif./Santa Cruz) had Macalester's other victory in the field events, taking the triple jump with a leap of 12.67 meters.
On the track, sophomore
Brian Eisner (Portland, Ore./Oregon Episcopal) won the 400 meters in 54.65 seconds. He also helped the Scots' relay teams place first, combining with junior
Peace Madimutsa (Harare, Zimbabwe/United World College) sophomore
Theon Masters (St. Andrew, Jamaica/Wolmer's) and freshman
Garrett Goodstein (Glenwood Springs, Colo./Glenwood Springs) to capture the 4x200 relay in 1:40.94. Eisner, Madimusta, Goodstein and junior
James Hargens (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) won the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:39.98.
The Scots took the top three places in the 800 meters, with senior
Alec Shub (New Haven, Conn./Wilbur Cross) taking first in 2:00.83 ahead of senior
Trevor Maggart (Tokyo, Japan/American School of Japan) and sophomore
Kai Heen (Philadelphia, Pa./J.R. Masterman). In the 3000 meters, first year
Mac Doherty (Madison, Wis./Madison East) took second with a time of 9:26.29.
The Scots will compete at the UW-River Falls Meet on Saturday, Jan. 30.
