ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's track and field team welcomed all twelve Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference teams to Macalester Stadium today as they played host to the 2015 MIAC Outdoor Championships. The Scots excelled in day one action, breaking one school record and sending runners to finals in the 100, 200, 400, and 800-meter runs.

click here. After six completed final events, the Scots have totaled four team points and sit in 10th place.
Simone Carpenter scored a point for Macalester today after posting an eighth place finish in the javelin. Carpenter threw 33.79-meters.
The Scots' 4x800 team was responsible for the three additional points for Macalester. The relay, made up of

Ellen Brady and
Carmen Garson-Shumway finished in sixth place with a time of 9:36.66.
Macalester excelled in several of the preliminary events today. The 4x100 relay, consisting of:
Emily Diener,
Erin Ortiz,
Anik Regan and
Hannah Sonsalla posted a Macalester record-setting time of 48.68 to win preliminaries and qualify for tomorrow's finals.
Hannah Sonsalla posted a qualifying time in the 100-meter dash, finishing in 13.16. Sonsalla also qualified in the 200-meter dash, running a 25.89 preliminary time. Teammate
Erin Ortiz will join Sonsalla in the 200-meter. Ortiz ran a 26.10 in prelims today.
Emily Diener made the cut for the 400-meter finals after posting a 58.75 time in today's preliminaries.
Irene Gibson will compete in the 800-meter run finals on Saturday after running to a 2:16.24 preliminary time.
Action will begin Saturday at 2 p.m. with the men's javelin, women's hammer, men's triple jump, women's pole vault and women's high jump. Running events will begin at 3 p.m., starting with the steeplechase.
