MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Logan Hovie set a personal best and tied the Olson Forum high jump record as he claimed the event title at the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships.
Hovie's winning jump of 2.07m (6-9 1/2) was a half-inch better than his second-place effort at last year's conference meet and provided the Scots with 10 of their 17 points on the first full day of competition.
Joe Giamberdino picked up five points for Macalester as he placed fourth in the mile run. With the top seven finishers coming from the third of three heats, less than five seconds separated the top four finishers with Giamberdino clocking in at 4:22.51.
Jack Schultenover placed eighth in the 60-meter dash in a time of 7.147 seconds. He was bested by St. Thomas runners Cole Boughner, who was sixth in 7.140, and Sean Murphy, seventh in 7.146,
The Scots' lone other point on the day came from the distance medley relay squad of
Trevor Maggart,
Tayeb Zaidi,
Lachlan Hinwood and
Dylan Saul, who turned in an eighth-place time of 10:51.26.
The second and final day of competition gets underway, Saturday, with field events at 10:15 a.m.
