COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. -- Hannah Sonsalla and
Allison Pillar won the 400- and 600-meter dashes, respectively, as Macalester finished second at the Saint Benedict Quadrangular meet.
The host Blazer won the meet with 204 points while the Scots, with 137 points, edged out Concordia-Moorhead by three points for second place with St. Catherine was fourth with 91 points.
In her first 400 competition of the season, Sonsalla cruised to victory in one minute, 1.10 seconds with teammate
Emily Diener immediately behind her in a season-best 1:02.20.
The 600 followed immediately after the 400 and Pillar won the event by running a season-best 1:45.46.
The 800-meter run saw the Scots put out their best team finish, placing four runners in the top eight to score 23 points.
Carmen Garson-Shumway led the way by placing second in a season-best time of 2:27.23.
Caitlin Toner followed in third, in 2:28.99, with
Ellen Brady, fourth in a season-best 2:29.69.
Brooke Hunter picked up a pair of points by placing seventh in her first 800 competition, finishing in 2:39.93.
Other top-three finishers for Macalester included
Erin Ortiz (3rd, 200m dash, 27.25); Ingrid Green (2nd, 1000m run, 3:12.01); Lorna Sherwood Caballero (2nd, mile run, 5:25.56);
Sarah Jo DeVore (3rd, 3000m run, 11:21.38); and
Risa Luther (3rd, weight throw, 11.33m/37-2 1/4).
Next up for the Scots is the University of Minnesota Parents' Day Open, Saturday, Feb. 21, beginning at 10 a.m. at the University of Minnesota Fieldhouse.
