RIVER FALLS, Wis. -- Emily Diener and
Irene Gibson each claimed individual titles and Macalester had 30 scoring places totalling 173 points to claim the team title at the Falcon Winter Invitational at Wisconsin-River Falls.
Diener, who won the 400-meter dash in one minute, 2.32 seconds, also ran the leadoff legs for the 4x200 and 4x400 relays, both of which finished second. She was joined by
Anik Regan,
Hannah Sonsalla and
Erin Ortiz in the 4x200, which finished in 1:48.69, while Gibson ran the anchor leg of the 4x400 with Ortiz and Sonsalla running the second and third legs, respective, to finish in 4:13.54.
Gibson won the 600-meter run in 1:44.50 and the Scots took five places in the event to score 31 points as
Ingrid Greene was second, 1:44.88,
Carmen Garson-Shumway was third, 1:46.23,
Ellen Brady fourth, 1:47.67, and
Izzy Ballet seventh, 1:56.05.
Sarah Silbert delivered points in three events, placing third in the triple jump with an effort of 9.73 meters (32 feet, 3 inches) while placing sixth in both the long jump (4.57m/15-0), and the 55-meter hurdles (9.18).
Brooke Hunter finished second in the 55-meter hurdles, giving the Scots 12 points in the event. Hunter's time of 8.67 moved her into fifth place on the school's all-time list in the event. She lowered her time from the preliminaries by .24 seconds, having posted the fastest preliminary time of the day in 8.91.
Sonsalla also turned in a second-place effort with a time of 26.94 in the 200-meter dash and, in addition to the two relays, added five points by placing fourth in the 55-meter dash (7.59).Macalester also got a second-place finish from
Meghan Klapper, who tied for the best effort in the high jump (1.53m/5-0 1/4) but was beaten out for first place on a tie breaker.
The Scots scored 22 points in the 3,000-meter run with
Lea Davidson second (11:30.71),
Becky Honnold third (11:42.39),
Laura Gould fourth (12:10.05) and
Ali Marks sixth (12:18.03).
The 1,000 meter run produced 17 points with
Caitlin Toner finishing second (3:14.82),
Natalie Prescott fourth (3:17.62) and
Eliza Ramsey fifth (3:17.82).
In the 400-meter dash, Diener was backed up by Toner, who was fourth (1:05.42) and
Erin Porter 8th (1:07.97), while the mile run saw Macalester get 11 points with
Karlyn Russell third, 5:38.15, Lorna Sherwood Caballero fifth, 5:43.68, and
Elena Torry-Schrag eighth (5:48.65).
The Scots will be in action next Saturday when they take part in the Bethel Invitational, slated for an 11:00 a.m. start at Bethel's Sports and Recreation Center.
