RIVER FALLS, Wis. -- Logan Hovie scored a victory in the high jump to lead Macalester to a sixth-place finish at the Falcon Winter Classic, hosted by Wisconsin-River Falls.
St. Thomas won the event with 202 points while host UW-River Falls was second with 130. The remainder of the field saw St. Mary's score 80 points for third, Hamline fourth with 72, Concorida-St. Paul fifth with 52, Macalester sixth with 50, Augsburg seventh with 43 and Northwestern eighth with seven.
Hovie passed until the bar height reached 1.98m (6-6), which he cleared on his only attempt. He and Concordia's Josh Johanson were the only competitors to advance to 2.03m (6-8) which Hovie cleared on his third attempt while Johanson was unable to clear. Hovie then made three attempts at 2.06m (6-9), which he failed to clear.
The Scots also picked up a pair of second-place finishes to account for eight points each.
The 4x200-meter relay team of Konnor Flemming,
Tre Nowaczynski,
Bolton Howes and
Jole Miller lost out by just 1.13 seconds to St. Thomas, finishing in 1:33.96.
In the mile run,
Joe Giamberdino finished 2.57 seconds out of first place, finishing in 4:24.74.
Macalester picked up 12 points in the 3,000-meter run by claiming three of the eight scoring places in the event.
Lachlan Hinwood was third in 9:19.65 while
Dylan Saul was two spots back in 9:21.96.
Mike Waltman placed seventh in 9:38.84.
The Scots will be in action next Saturday when they take part in the Bethel Invitational, slated for an 11:00 a.m. start at Bethel's Sports and Recreation Center.
