Men's Cross Country: Scots open season at Summit Cup

Giamberdino, Waltman pace Macalester.

Senior Joe Giamberdino was third and classmate Mike Waltman ninth as Macalester fell in the Summit Cup dual meet to St. Thomas, 18-45.

Giamberdino was less than 10 seconds behind the Tommies' Jacob Gerhartz, who won the 6,000-meter race in 19 minutes, 48.72 seconds. Giamberdino was third in 19:58.6, fewer than two seconds behind St. Thomas' Dylan Baumann.

The Tommies would claim the next five spots before the Scots' number two runner, Waltman, crossed the finish line ninth, in 20:49:98.
