St. Paul, Minn. – Macalester alumni Heather Lendway was a prominent member of the Macalester swimming and water polo teams from 2003 to 2006. Lendway has continued to strive for greatness as she posted a strong finish to clinch the 2014 USA Triathlon Olympic Distance National Championship held on Saturday, Aug. 9 in Milwaukee, Wis. She successfully defended her title from the 2013 USA Triathlon.
In a field of nearly 3,100 competitors, the Olympic-Distance Triathlon featured a 1,500-meter swim, a 40-kilometer bike and a 10-kilometer run. Lendway completed the race in 2:05:07—winning her 30-34 age group and also capturing the fastest female time overall.
Her 1500-meter open water swim split was 18:19; she pedaled the 40-kilometer (25 mile) bike course in 1:00:62 and completed the 10-kilometer (6.2 mile) running course in 42:27. Lendway recorded the second fastest swim, rode the fourth quickest bike and recorded the 79th best run split. Heather's victory qualified her for the 2015 Triathlon World Amateur Championships that will take place in Chicago, Ill.

click here. Lendway is a local of St. Paul and garnered many accolades at Macalester as an outstanding distance swimmer and water polo player for the Scots. She was a two-time All-American in the pool and a five-time Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) champion. As a senior, Lendway was named the MIAC Swimmer of the Year and the Macalester College Female Athlete of the Year. She continues to hold four Macalester swimming records today (500-yard free, 1000-yard free, 1650-yard free and 400-yard IM). In addition, Lendway earned All-Conference honors for her play in water polo.
