The Macalester College women's track and field team knew heading into the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Outdoor Championships that there was potential for some memorable performances in multiple events. And that's just what the Scots gotin the season finals as Kimber Meyer (Fy., Naperville, Ill. / North) won the 5,000-meter run and the 4 x 400-meter relay team set a new school record highlighting an eighth-place team finish Saturday at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota.

Meyer's rookie year as a Scot has been nothing but impressive. And she continued to wow conference track fans as she became a MIAC champion for the second time this year when she clocked in at 16:59.19 in a talented 32-person field in the 5,000-meter event. Not only did Meyer finish nearly 45 seconds faster than the next competitor from Augsburg College, the first-year set a new meet and stadium record in the process. Her time was just off her season-best time of 16:54.55 which ranked No.16 in all of Division III heading into the meet.

No less impressive was the second-place finish in the 4 x 400-meter relay that broke a school record that had been set at the meet last year. The four-person squad of Daiga Kravale (Sr., Riga, Latvia / UWC of the Adriatic), Hannah Pollard-Garber (So., Rockville, Md. / Thomas Sprigg-Wootton), Marta LeFevre-Levy (Sr., Wayland, Mass. / Wayland) and Irene Gibson (Jr., Carmel, Ind. / Carmel) finished in 3:56.69 to better the previous record from 2013 by nearly two seconds and was just three seconds behind event champion University of St. Thomas.

All four of the participants in the record-setting relay found individual success on the day with LeFevre-Levy leading the way with a All-MIAC finish in the 400-meter hurdles. The senior closed out her career with a third-place time of 64.66 that was nearly a three-second PR and a second better than the next competitor. Her time is also the third-fastest all-time at Macalester.

Already a MIAC indoor champion in her career, Gibson earned All-MIAC Honorable Mention honors when she placed sixth in the 800-meter dash. The junior turned in a PR performance with a time of 2:16.69 that now ranks No. 5 all-time in Macalester history. Pollard-Garber qualified for the finals in the 100-meter dash and placed seventh overall with a time of 12.54. Her PR performance is now fourth-best in Scot history. Kravale also qualified for the finals in the 400-meter dash and placed seventh with a time of 59.02.

The Scots' 4 x 100-meter relay team of Hunter Hedenberg (So., Proctorsville, Vt. / Newton North), Erin Ortiz (Jr., Corvallis, Ore. / Crescent Valley), Kravale and Pollard-Garber also had a memorable All-MIAC Honorable Mention finish as they placed fourth with a time of 49.49. The time is now the fourth-fastest at Macalester and was better than the Scots' time a year ago.

Emily Diener (Jr., Duluth, Minn. / Marshall) rounded out the Scots' sprint highlights as she qualified for the finals in both the 200 and 400-meter events. The junior earned All-MIAC Honorable mention in the 200-meter dash with a PR time of 58.97. Her time is now the fourth-fastest all-time at Macalester. Diener also placed eighth in the 200-meter with a time of 26.49.

Meyer wasn't the only Scot to turn in top performances in the distance events. Anna Schmitz (Sr., St. Paul, Minn. / Central) and Sarah Johnathan (So., Guilford, Conn. / Guilford) both earned All-MIAC Honorable Mention in their respective events to score big points for the Scots. Schmitz closed out her collegiate career with a fourth-place finish in the 10,000-meter run Friday with a time of 38:14.04. In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Johnathan broke her own school record from earlier this year when she clocked in at 11:26.61 to finish fifth in a fast field of runners. Her time was a 16-second PR from her previous best time of 11:42.61.

In the triple jump, first-year Heather Bourne (Kensington, Calif. / Lick-Wilmerding) qualified for the finals and finished ninth with a mark of 10.47 meters (34-4.25) to highlight the Scots' performances in the field events.

The Scots placed eighth overall in the team standings with 51 points, while the University of St. Thomas repeated as the team champion. Additional information can be found on the MIAC Championships Site
