The Scots fell 9-0 in a big conference matchup at the Carlson Courts of St. Olaf on Tuesday afternoon to fall to 7-7 overall and 3-4 in MIAC play. The win improves the Oles to 5-3 in conference play and one step closer to securing a MIAC playoff spot.
In the No. one singles,
Brian Utz (So., Rochester, Minn. / Lourdes) was edged in the first set 7-5, before dropping the second set 6-0.
Max Soghikian (Sr., Piedmont, Calif. / Piedmont) was also involved in a close match in No. 2 singles; he ended up winning the first set 6-4 but fell 6-1 in the second set and a heartbreaking 11-9 in the final set. In the No. 5 singles match,
Sam Naden (Jr., Middleton, Wis. / Middleton) also split the first two sets before losing in the final set 10-3.
The Scots are back in action this Saturday afternoon at St. Mary's in Winona. They will then host Carleton in the regular season finale on Sunday at the Hayden Courts.
