Baseball: Scots lose 2-1 in 13 innings

Box Score
Macalester received a pitching gem for the third time in three games, but had to settle for a 2-1 defeat in a 13-inning affair with Bethany Lutheran Tuesday night at the Metrodome.  The second game of the scheduled doubleheader was suspended due to Dome time constraints.

Sam Berk (Fy., Miami, Fla. / Palmer Trinity School) doubled in the top of the second inning and scored on a BLC error to put the Scots up 1-0 before the Vikings evened the score in the third frame on back-to-back extra base hits.  Neither team scored over the next nine innings in this game which saw a combined 21 runners stranded on base.  Bethany Lutheran finally tallied the game-winner in the 13th on a walk-off double.

Chase Kahn (Jr., Cooper City, Fla. / American Heritage Plantation) pitched the first 5 2/3 innings for Macalester, allowing just one run.  C.J. Smith (Jr., Ashland, Wis.) came into the game in relief, and went the next 5 1/3 frames, not yielding a hit while striking out seven batters.

The Scots head back to the Metrodome Saturday (March 9) for a 10 p.m. twinbill will Luther (Ia.).
