Gustavus Adolphus jumped out to a 15-5 lead after six minutes of play and later went on a 12-0 run to take a commanding 33-10 advantage Monday night in St. Peter. The Scots played much better in the second half, out-scoring the Gusties in the period, but the margin was too much to overcome as Gustavus went on to win 70-55.
Taylor Pike (Jr., Ashland, Neb. / Ashland-Greenwood) knocked down a pair of three-points and went 7-for-7 from the free throw line, and led the way for Macalester with 15 points off the bench.
Kyanna Jones (Sr., Brooklyn Park, Minn. / Osseo) also canned a couple three-pointers and finished with 13 points and three steals.
Emma Leyden (Jr., Berkeley, Calif. / Head-Royce) and
Veronika Jakubovie (Jr., Maple Grove, Minn.) each added eight points to the Macalester cause.
Abby Purfeerst (Fy., River Falls, Wis.) was Mac's top rebounder with six boards.
Gustavus was led by Abby Rothenbueher with 15 points and eight boards. Kelsey Florian and Julia Dysthe each scored 14. GAC shot 50% from the field. The Gusties advance to 13-8 on the winter and move closer to clinching a conference playoff berth.
Macalester returns to its home court Wednesday (Feb. 6) when it hosts St. Mary's at 7:30 p.m.
