One day after opening the campaign with a win over St. Scholastica, the Scots were brought down 61-40 Saturday by Wisconsin-Superior in the second day of action at the College of St. Benedict Quinlivan & Hughes Tip-Off Tournament in St. Joseph. The Yellow Jackets held Macalester to just 27% shooting (13-for-49) on the day.
The first half was closely played and UW-Superior led at the intermission before out-scoring the Scots 30-15 in the second half of play.
Macalester had balanced scoring, led by three players with nine points apiece:
Emma Leyden (Sr., Berkeley, Calif. / Head-Royce),
Erin Murray (So., Sparta, Wis.) and
Veronika Jakubovie (Sr., Maple Grove, Minn.). Jakubovie added eight rebounds, while teammate
Grace Dickman (Fy., Maspeth, N.Y. / Cate School (Calif.)) pulled down nine boards. Jakubovie, who paced Mac in Friday's game, was named to the all-tournament team.
Superior was paced by Sally Linzmeier with 20 points.
Macalester's season continues Tuesday with a game at Northwestern-Roseville.
