Kilgour scores 19 but Scots fall to Gustavus 76-65

Macalester trailed by just four points midway through the second half and six points with 2:26 to go, but could not collect its second win in St. Peter in three seasons as host-Gustavus held on to win 76-65 Monday night.

The Scots shot a season-best 49% and drained 8-of-18 from outside the three-point line, and received a season-high 19 points from Dylan Kilgour (Fy., La Crescenta, Calif. / Crescenta Valley), who also led the defensive effort with four steals.  Kilgour went 5-for-10 on three-pointers and played 40 minutes.  He's reached double digits in scoring eight times and has tallied nine or more in 10 of the team's 11 games.

Sam Marshall (Sr., Sun Prairie, Wis.) had 13 second half points and finished his night with 17.  Justin Wasik (Jr., Chicago, Ill. / Maine South) added 14 points, four boards and three assists.

Ben Biewen had 19 points and eight rebounds for Gustavus and three teammates added 11 points apiece.  Biewen was 4-for-4 on free throws in the last :34.  GAC goes to 6-5 on the season, 4-3 in the MIAC.

Most of the statistical categories were even.  Gustavus, however, made 23 of its 27 free throws, while Macalester went  7-for-16 from the line.

Mac (3-8 / 0-6 MIAC) returns to its home floor Wednesday (Jan. 9) when it play host to St. Mary's at 7:30 p.m.  Both teams go for their initial MIAC victory of the campaign.
