Macalester led 22-20 at halftime in its upset bid Wednesday night at St. Benedict, but the host Blazers dominated the second half and went on to win 55-34. CSB improves to 13-4 overall and 11-3 in the MIAC, while the Scots drop to 4-13 on the season, 3-11 in the MIAC.
The Scots were led by
Taylor Pike (Jr., Ashland, Neb. / Ashland-Greenwood) with nine points.
Kyanna Jones (Sr., Brooklyn Park, Minn. / Osseo) had seven points, 10 rebounds, a couple assists and three steals.
Both teams were cold from the floor in this defensive battle. St. Ben's shot 31%, but held the Scots to a 19% shooting figure.
The Blazers, who are in a five-team tie for second place in the MIAC, a game out of first place, were led by Morgan Dale with 15 points, 16 rebounds and four steals. Whitney Canton added 12 points and nine boards, and Brianna Barrett had 10 points and four steals. CSB collects its fifth straight win and along with four other teams is a game behind league-leading Concordia.
Macalester makes the trip to Northfield on Saturday (Dec. 26) for an afternoon game at St. Olaf. The Scots are going for a season sweep over the Oles.
