In a match between a pair of teams expected to contend for a high conference finish, St. Benedict scored late and held on to beat the Scots 1-0 in the MIAC opener Tuesday night at Macalester Stadium. The game's only score was produced from in close by CSB's Paige Olson with 10:27 remaining in regulation.
St. Benedict goes to 3-1-1 and 1-0 in the league, while Macalester is 3-2 overall and 0-1 in the league.
Mac out-shot the Blazers 8-7 in the closely-contested and defensive-minded match, but CSB produced a 4-1 lead in shots on goal. St. Ben's led 5-3 in corner kicks.
The Scots are back in action Sunday (Sept. 16) when they host Loras (Ia.) at 2:30 p.m.
