MIAC post-season awards
Center fielder
Cleo Nagy (So., Eugene, Ore. / Henry D. Sheldon) has been selected to the All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) softball team for the second year in a row, while pitcher / outfielder
Miranda Stokes (Fy., Perry, Utah / Box Elder) picks up honorable mention All-MIAC honors.
Nagy and Stokes led Macalester to a 9-13 MIAC record (after going 1-21 last year) and a 20-18 overall mark for the school's first winning season since 1997. They combined for 15 home runs and were charged with just three errors between the two of them.
"Cleo and Miranda led our offensive charge this year and played solid defense as well,” said Macalester head coach
Jody Gabriel. “They both hit for power, as well as for average, and we were thankful to have them in our lineup. They are very deserving of this All-MIAC recognition."
Nagy has been chosen by conference coaches to the All-MIAC squad for the second time in two years and is the first Scot named all-conference as both a first-year and sophomore since former pitcher Lisafe Aying in '94 and '95. Nagy started every game for the Scots, batting .360 with a school-record nine homers, posting a .648 slugging percentage and driving in 26 runs. She hit .311 with a couple homers in the conference.
Stokes, who pitched, play first base and also played in the outfield, posted equally impressive numbers as one the MIAC's top newcomers. She was tied for third with four MIAC home runs and overall on the season, led Macalester in batting (.376) and RBI (27) to go along with six round-trippers. In MIAC games, Stokes hit .320 with 13 RBI and a .520 slugging percentage.
Representing the Scots on the MIAC's All-Sportsmanship team is pitcher
Amanda Knopf (Sr., Boulder, Colo.).
