Mason Kriegel (Fy., Danbury, Wis. / Webster) pole vaulted to a fifth-place finish to lead the way for Macalester Friday and Saturday at the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) men's outdoor track & field championships at Concordia College in Moorhead.
Kriegel cleared 4.50 meters (14-9) to gain fifth in the pole vault and give the Scots four team points, enough to edge St. Mary's for 10th place. Kriegel was one of three vaulters tied for third-best figure, but placed behind the other two based on number of misses.
St. Thomas won the team trophy over runner-up Hamline, while Gustavus placed third.
Joe Frankl (So., Wilmette, Ill. / New Trier) finished fourth in his 800-meter run heat (1:59.77) but missed out on getting into Saturday's finals. In the 1500 meters,
Dan Voss (So., Willmar, Minn.) posted a 4:10.61 mark and teammate Andrew Keefe (So., Minneapolis, Minn. / South) ran a 4:10.68 in another heat.
