Macalester had four fifth-place finishes and three sixth-place performances over the weekend at the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Championships at Concordia College in Moorhead. The Scots placed ninth out of 12 teams.
Lucy Andrews (So., Plymouth, Minn. / Wayzata) helped lead the way by finishing fifth in the 3000-meter steeplechase (11:51.82).
The Scots ran to three fifth-place relay finishes.
In the 4x400 relay to close out the weekend, Macalester clocked a school-record 3:58.59 time behind the efforts of Kravale,
Marta LeFevre-Levy (So., Wayland, Mass.), Ortiz and
Irene Gibson (Fy., Carmel, Ind.).
Sprinting to a fifth-place finish in the 4x100-meter relay (49.78) were
Alexa Simpson (Jr., St. Elizabeth, Jamaica / Hampton School),
Erin Ortiz (Fy., Corvallis, Ore. / Crescent Valley),
Daiga Kravale (So., Latvia / UWC of the Adriatic) and
Ana Armitage (So., Rickton, Ill. / Hononegah Community). In the 4x800-meter relay, the Scots ran to another fifth-place finish (9:32.09) as carrying the baton were
Caitlin Toner (Fy., New Providence, N.J.),
Emily Bachhuber (Fy., Shorewood, Wis.),
Katherine Ehrenreich (So., Deerfield, Ill.) and Gibson.
Four athletes added sixth-place finishes: Simpson in the 200-meter dash (26.24),
Anna Schmitz (So., St. Paul, Minn. / Central) in the 5000 meters and
Kate Rochat (Jr., Portland, Ore. / Cleveland) in the triple jump (11.25m / 36-11).
A week ago,
Georgia Cloepfil (So., Portland, Ore. / Cleveland) placed fourth at the MIAC Heptathlon (3,732 pts.).
Posting ninth-best prelim marks Friday only to come up just one place short of reaching the finals were Kravale in the 400 dash (60.97), Simpson in the 100 (12.73), Gibson in the 800 (2:20.83) and Rochat in the long jump (5.08m / 16-8).
Audrey Mills (Sr., Marine, Minn. / Forest Lake) placed ninth in the high jump (1.55m / 5-1) and
Becky Kane (So., Miladore, Wis. / Auburndale) was ninth in the steeplechase (12:10.67.)
St. Thomas won its eighth straight team championship, while Concordia beat Gustavus for third.
