Macalester beat Wisconsin-Stout 9-2 in the first game of a doubleheader in Mesa, Arizona, but settled for the split as the Blue Devils took game two 9-6.  The Scots are now 5-6 on the season and 3-4 on their Spring Break trip.

Stout had its five-game winning streak stopped by Macalester's Nick Meerson (Sr., Los Angeles, Calif. / Harvard-Westlake), who went the distance to improve to 4-0 on the young season.  Meerson gave up two runs on six hits, striking out eight batters while not walking anyone.  In four appearances, Meerson is 4-0 with a 2.14 ERA.  He has a 20 strikeouts compared to only four walks and opponents are batting only .213 against him.

The Scots scored all the runs they needed in the top of the first inning, crossing home plate four times.

Garrett Salzman (Sr., Glendale, Calif. / St. Francis) and CJ Smith (So., Ashland, Wis.) each collected a couple hits to lead the attack.  Smith had a double and Nick Mar (Fy., Sacramento, Calif. / McClatchy) contributed a triple.

Smith and Robert Williams (Sr., West Covina, Calif. / Fairview) had a pair of hits apiece in the nightcap, but the Scots could not overcome an early 8-0 deficit.

The Scots play Springfield (Mass.) tomorrow.
