Macalester vs. St. Catherine statistics
Macalester took the lead for good with 14:24 left in a close game and pulled away for a 71-58 win at St. Catherine as the Scots improve to 6-8 in the MIAC with their fourth victory in five games.
Mac shot 50% in the second half and on the night and took advantage of its chances from the free throw line, going 17-for-20 from the stripe. The defense held St. Kate's to a 35% shooting figure and Macalester out-rebounded the Wildcats 43-32.
Five Scots reached double digits in the scoring column, led by
Shannon Rene (Jr., Eau Claire, Wis. / Memorial) and
Jessica Rene (Jr., Eau Claire, Wis. / Memorial) with 13 points each. Adding 10 points apiece to the cause were
Erin Bloomfield-Bortz (Fy., Carmel, Ind. / University),
Audrey Mills (Jr., Forest Lake, Minn.) and
Holly Schiedermayer (Jr., Waupaca, Wis.). Bllomfield-Bortz made four of her five shots.
Shannon Rene also handed out six assists, while Mills led the team with seven rebounds.
St. Catherine was led by Laura Kalbfell with 26 points and Sonja Ellingson with 15. The Wildcats are 4-12 overall and 3-10 in the MIAC.
On top 60-56 late,
Shannon Rene canned a three-pointer to put the Scots up 63-56 at 2:49 and at 2:18,
Majra Mucic (Sr., Zenica, Bosnia / St. Louis Park – Minn.) scored to make the Macalester lead 65-58.
Macalester, now 6-11 on the season, plays Saturday (Jan. 29) at St. Mary's.
