Macalester College head men's basketball coach
Tim Whittle has announced his team's 2010 recruiting class. Five young men, hailing from five different states, have submitted a deposit to join the Macalester College Class of 2014.
“I am very excited about our first recruiting class at Macalester and the student-athletes who are coming to join our quest to compete for an MIAC and national championship,” said Whittle.
The newcomers with plans to join the Scots are:
Lamont Diggs, a 6-2 forward from
Fridley High School in Fridley, Minn., averaged 8.5 ppg and 4.1 rpg in the tough North Suburban Conference. Diggs is a tremendous three-sport athlete in basketball, football and track and field. On the basketball court he makes up for his size with great strength and athleticism. His parents are William and Cynthia Diggs.
Alex Hart, a 6-2 guard from
Pace Academy in Atlanta, Ga., was the leading three-point shooter at 40% as a senior while averaging 4 ppg, 3 rpg, and 2 apg playing alongside a big-time Division I recruit in the backcourt. His team finished the season 21-9 and lost in the GHSA Sweet Sixteen to the eventual state champion. His parents are Alex and Desiree Hart.
Jeremy Jenkins, a 6-2 guard from
Declo High School in Declo, Idaho, was a two-sport athlete in basketball and football. Jenkins was an All-Canyon Conference guard as a senior while averaging 9.5 ppg, 8.6 rpg, 5 apg, and 2 bpg, and shooting 58% from the field while leading his team to a 17-7 record. In football, Jenkins was a first-team all-state free safety, second-team all-state quarterback and All-Canyon Conference QB and free safety. His parents are Dwight and Donna Jenkins.
Chris Quinn, a 6-2 guard from
Medford, Mass., is a 2009 graduate of Beaver Country Day School before attending Wilbraham and Monson Academy as a post graduate student. Quinn averaged 17 ppg, 6 apg, 6 rpg at Beaver Country Day while earning first-team All-EIL and the Coach's award as a junior and senior. He helped lead WMA to an 18-8 record and a berth in the NEPSAC Class B championship. His parents are Ralph and Sheila Quinn.
Justin Wasik, a 6-3 guard from
Maine South High School in Park Ridge, Ill., was IBCA all-state honorable mention, Bugle Newspapers second team All-Area, Pioneer Press honorable mention All-Area, and Central Suburban League honorable mention all-conference. Wasik was a two year starter for the Hawks, who made their first Elite Eight appearance in 31 years in the largest classification in Illinois in 2010. Wasik averaged 10.6 ppg, 1.8 apg, 2.8 rpg over his two year career. His parents are Jim Wasik and Loretta Maestranzi.
