Daniel Calderon (Sr., St. Paul, Minn. / Cretin-Derham Hall) is leading a group of collegiate players players who are staging a “World Cup Soccer Camp” this week for about 100 middle-school children this week on the Macalester campus.
Calderon recently received a grant from Macalester's Institute for Global Citizenship to run the camp. The camp runs June 21-25 at Macalester Stadium and is for boys and girls going into the sixth, seventh and eighth grades.
Calderon, the lead organizer of the camp, was interviewed on WCCO Radio and featured in the June 22 St. Paul Pioneer Press.
In addition to training on the field, the campers spend time indoors watching World Cup matches and learning about the countries that are playing and their cultures.
