The Scots have high hopes for a successful season, which got underway Saturday at the Leonard Center with wins over Cornell (Ia.) and Northwestern-Roseville. Macalester topped Cornell 6-3 and swept Northwestern 9-0.

Most of the matches with Cornell were close. Gaining singles wins for Macalester were Michael Coleman(Jr., Westlake Village, Calif. / Agoura) at No. 2; Evan Elderbrock (So., Madison, Wis. / West) at No. 5; Max Edwards (Fy., Rochester, Minn. / Mayo) at No. 5; and Justin Margolies (Jr., Madison, Wis. / West) with a three-setter at No. 6.

Singles winners against Northwestern were Chris Fowler (So., Toronto, Ont. / Royal St. George's) at No. 1; Coleman at No. 2; Titus Levy (Sr., New York, N.Y. / Fieldston School) at No. 3; Edwards at No. 4; Margolies at No. 5, and Paul Mairet (Jr., Rochester, Minn. / Century).

The Scots have a long break before returning to the courts again as the team is off until beginning MIAC play Feb. 28 at St. Mary's.
