Complete Macalester Invitational results
In the team's final tune-up for the Feb. 18-20 MIAC championships, the Scots took on St. John's in the Macalester Invitational Friday and Saturday at the Leonard Center's Riley Pool. Macalester got off to a head start against a partial SJU squad Friday night, but the Johnnies came back Saturday to win the meet by an 853-461 tally.
Jeff Yamashita (Jr., Honolulu, Hi. / Iolani School) swam to three first-place finishes and teammate
Christian Bangert (Fy., Pinckney, Mich.) added another winning performance to lead the way for the Scots, who also won a couple relay races.
Yamashita won the finals in the 50-yard butterfly (25.00), 50 breastroke (31.07) and 100 fly (55.73), and Bangert took first in the 50-yard backstroke (30.31). Yamashita added a runner-up finish in the 50 free (22.80).
Ted Metz (Fy., Teaneck, N.J.) swam to second-place finishes in both the 400 individual medley and 50 breaststroke (31.53). Also taking second places were
Jackson Gilkey (Fy., Millis, Mass. / Xaverian Brothers) in the 50 fly (27.42) and
Vasa Trubetskoy (Jr., Middleton, Wis.) in the 50 back (30.81).
The Scots now begin preparing for the Feb. 18-20 MIAC championships at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.
