Grinnell Invitational team scores
Macalester placed fourth out of 10 teams Friday and Saturday at the Grinnell (Ia.) Invitational.
Karoline Hart (So., Rexford, N.Y. / Niskayuna) swam to first and second place finishes to lead the way, and
Grace Fleming (So., Northampton, Mass.) added two runner-up finishes and a third.
TheScots edged Augustana (Ill.) by one point for the fourth spot. Luther (Ia.) beat Grinnell for the team title, while Knox (Ill.) edged Macalester for third.
Hart won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.33) and placed second in the finals of the 200 breaststroke (2:29.21). She also took fifth in the 50-yard free (26.10) and sixth in the 200 individual medley (2:19.37). Fleming was runner-up in the 500-yard freestyle (5:24.55) and 1650 freestyle (18:47.44), and also placed third in the 200 free (2:03.59).
Kiersten Yeazel (Jr., Shorewood, Wis.) finished sixth in the 100 butterfly finals (1:08.47) and
Clare Pillsbury (So., Baraboo, Wis.) was sixth in the 200 breast (2:39.51).
Macalester's best relay performance was a second-place finish to Luther in the 800 free relay (8:22.34). Relay team members were Yeazel,
Sarah Ellerton (Sr., Suffield, Conn. / Suffield Academy), Pillsbury and Fleming. The 400 freestyle relay took third (3:51.73) behind the efforts of Fleming,
Kate Vermann (Jr., Bronx, N.Y. / Fieldston School), Ellerton and Hart.
The Scots compete next Saturday (Jan. 23) at the St. Catherine University Invitational.
