As the 11 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) men's soccer teams take to the field to open up the 2009 season, expect to see another year of thrilling plays, close contests, and an intense battle for the top of the conference standings. Gustavus took the top spot in the 2009 MIAC Men's Soccer Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Gusties were followed closely in the poll by Augsburg, Carleton, St. Thomas, and Saint John's. Gustavus received seven first place votes and Augsburg and Carleton had two each.  The Macalester Scots were picked seventh.
