Stephanie Schleuder gains 700th coaching win as Scots top Dubuque

With Macalester's 3-1 volleyball win over Dubuque (Ia.) tonight in St. Paul, head coach Stephanie Schleuder has reached the 700-victory plateau in her collegiate coaching career victories. Schleuder becomes just the third active Division III coach to reach this milestone and is just the 23rd head coach in collegiate women's volleyball history to achieve 700 wins.

Schleuder began her coaching career in 1972 at Bemidji State University and later coached at the University of Alabama and University of Minnesota before arriving at Macalester in 1998.

Coach Schleuder's overall record is now 700-454.

“This was our best match of the season and a great win,” said Coach Schleuder after the match. “It feels great to have finally reached it (the 700 win milestone).

The Scots and Dubuque split a pair of close sets to begin their match, with Macalester winning the opening set 25-23 before going down in the second set 27-29. Macalester attacked at a .308 rate in the third set to win 25-18 and clinched things with a 25-15 triumph in set four to win 3-1.

The Scots are now 4-7 on the year. Dubuque is 5-4.

Macalester served 10 aces, four by Anna Trier (Fy., Sun Prairie, Wis.), and tallied eight points on blocks.

Majra Mucic (Jr., Zenica, Bosnia / St. Louis Park – Minn.) spiked 15 kills, hit at a .294 percentage and had four blocks. Taylor Tinkham (So., St. Louis Park, Minn.) contributed nine kills on a .444 percentage and five blocks. Erin Cusac (Sr., Pine River, Minn. / Pine River-Backus) and Marie Godwin (Sr., Chaska, Minn.) each slammed seven kills.

Glasha Marcon (Fy., Richmond, Calif. / Albany) led the way in the back row with 14 digs, while Cusac and Godwin contributed nine apiece. Steffanie Fisher (Fy., Lindenhurst, Ill. / Lakes Community) handed out 23 assists and added eight digs.  Kiera Coulter (Jr,. Davis, Calif.) added 11 set assists.

The tourney continues tomorrow at the Leonard Center with the Scots playing at noon against Oklahoma Wesleyan and 2 p.m. against Grinnell (Ia.).
