CoSida Academic All-District teams
Macalester senior women's tennis player
Angie Horner (Bismarck, N.D. / Century) has received ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District Five honors. Horner receives second-team at-large honors. Sports included on the at-large team include tennis, golf, swimming & diving, ice hockey and skiing.
Horner, one of six MIAC student-athletes to receive this award for the at-large team, is the most accomplished player in the history of the Macalester women's tennis program. She graduated last week with a double-major in English and Russian Studies, and a 3.89 cumulative grade point average.
Horner's won-loss record at the top of the singles lineup over the past two spring seasons was 35-3 – all at No. 1.
Horner is the fifth Macalester athlete to receive Academic All-District honors during the 2008-09 school year, joining Reed Larson and Josh Boomgaarden from football, and Ann Baltzer and Trina PaStarr from basketball.
Top student-athletes from non-Division I programs in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ontario and Manitoba are eligible for inclusion on the District 5 team. Selection to this team is based on a combination of athletic and academic achievement.
The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District team is part of the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America program, administered by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) a 2,000-member organization consisting of sports public relations professionals for colleges and universities in the United States and Canada.
