Macalester used standout defense to topple Carthage (Wis.) 8-4 and Colorado College 9-4 to finish out the three-day, six-game Midwest Invitational in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The Scots went 4-2 during the tourney and even their record on the season at 10-10.
Aubrey Harding (Jr., Salem, Ore. / South Salem) handed out three assists against host-Carthage, while Macalester received three goals from
Catherine Anderson (Fy., Palo Alto, Calif. / Henry Gunn) and two from
Clare Eder (So., Evanston, Ill. / Evanston Township).
Sofia Shaw (Sr., Tacoma, Wash. / Stadium) registered 16 saves and had three steals to lead the defense. The Scots led 4-1 at halftime and entered the fourth quarter with a comfortable 7-1 lead.
Six different Scots scored against Colorado College, led by
Sarah Ellerton (Jr., Suffield, Conn.) with three goals.
Bailey Gucinski (Fy., Chicago, Ill. / Waubonsie Valley) netted two goals and led the defense with seven steals.
Ellerton led the Scots throughout the tournament with 14 goals, while Anderson added 12 and Gucinski had nine. Eder netted four goals.
Macalester will host the Midwest Region Championships April 17-18 at the Riley Pool. The complete tournament schedule will be announced soon.
