Mette wins long jump at Macalester Invitational

Maddie Mette (Jr., Burnsville, Minn.) placed first in the long jump to lead the way for the Scots at the 33rd annual Macalester Invitational on Saturday. Mette's winning mark was 16-3 1 /4 (4.96 meters). That led the Scots to an eighth-place team finish.

Emma Swinford (Fy., Columbus, Ohio / Grandview Heights) produced the team's second-best finish when she placed third out of 30 runners in the 1500 meters (4:57.02).

Emily Matthews (Jr., Fort Collins, Colo.) placed fourth in the 400-meter dash (1:00.40) and Tara McCoy (So., Menomonie, Wis.) ran to a fifth-place finish out of 39 in the 800 meters (2:21.69).

In the 3000-meter run, Kira Spencer (Jr., Iowa City, Ia. / West) finished fifth (11:25.91) and Adelaide Pagano (Sr., Niskayuna, N.Y.) was sixth (11:33.68). Mari Mejia (So., Golden Valley, Minn. / St. Louis Park) was the last of nine sprinters to make the 100-meter dash finals and then moved up to sixth in the finals (13.54).

The University of Minnesota took top team honors with 150 points, followed by St. Benedict with 124.

The Scots compete Wednesday (April 29) at the St. Thomas Twilight Meet and Saturday (May 2) at the Hamline University Meet of the UnSaintly.
