Macalester vs. Winona State box score
After starting out with four defeats, the Scots picked up their first victory of the season when they beat Winona State 8-1 Sunday in Winona. Macalester is now 1-4 overall, while WSU falls to 5-5. Despite the 8-1 final score, the match was very close and all three doubles matches were decided by just two games.
Three Scots battled to three-set wins in the singles competition:
Angie Horner (Jr., Bismarck, N.D. / Century) at No. 1,
Kelli Crescenti (Fy., Los Angeles, Calif. / Hart) at No. 5, and
Lauren Dutkiewicz (So., St. Charles, Ill. / North) at No. 6. Also gaining singles victories were
Stephanie Lee (Jr., Camarillo, Calif. / Oaks Christian) at No. 2,
Amanda Wenzel (Jr., Green Bay, Wis. / Southwest) at no. 3 and
Abby Citrin (So., Rye Brook, N.Y. / Blind Brook) at No. 4.
Horner and Lee registered an 8-6 win at first doubles and at third doubles, Wenzel and
Becky Schneider (Sr., Larchmont, N.Y. / Mamaroneck) won 9-7.
The Scots travel to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, for five matches over Spring Break. They will play matches March 15-19 with Allegheny (Pa.), Hope (Mich.), St. Lawrence (N.Y.), Greenville (Ill.) and St. Michael's (Vt.).
