Scots beat St. Benedict 5-4

Macalester vs. St. Benedict box score

Macalester won a 5-4 thriller over St. Benedict at Gold's Tennis Center in Sartell for its eighth win in a row as the Scots move to 8-4 on the season and 2-2 in the well-balanced MIAC. St. Ben's drops to 11-5 overall and is now also 2-2 in the conference.  Mac's eight-match win streak is the longest for the Scots since the team won 11 in a row in 1999.

The match came down to Stephanie Lee's (Jr., Camarillo, Calif. / Oaks Christian) super-breaker, which she won 10-5 at No. 2 singles. Lee is now 9-3 on the season and 24-8 at second singles over the last two seasons. She won 7-6, 2-6, (10-5) in singles play and teamed with Angie Horner (Jr., Bismarck, N.D. / Century) for an 8-4 No. 1 doubles victory.

St. Benedict started the match by winning two of the three doubles events.  The Scots needed four wins in singles play and  managed just that.  In addition to Lee's win at No. 2, Macalester picked up wins from Horner at No. 1; Amanda Wenzel (Jr., Green Bay, Wis. / Southwest) at No. 3; and Lauryn Dutkiewicz (So., St. Charles, Ill. / North) at No. 5.

This is Macalester's second straight 5-4 MIAC victory after going 5-0 over Spring Break at Hilton Head, South Carolina. The Scots edged St. Mary's 5-4 on Wednesday (March 25).

The Scots go for their ninth in a row next Tuesday (April 7) at Hamline.
