Macalester vs. St. Cloud State box score

Macalester's women's tennis season got underway with a 6-3 loss to St Cloud State at Gold's Gym Tennis Center in Sartell.

Angie Horner (Jr., Bismarck, N.D. / Century) and Stephanie Lee (Jr., Camarillo, Calif. / Oaks Christian) won their matches at first and second singles and joined forces to gain a victory at No. 1 doubles to lead the way for the Scots. The singles wins came in long, hard-fought matches. Horner claimed a 7-5, 5-7, (10-7) win at No. 1 singles. At No. 2, Lee came out on top 7-5, 2-6, (10-7).

Lee and Horner, who went 18-2 last year at first doubles, won their match at No. 1 by a quick 8-2 tally.

The Scots came close to pulling out the win over the Division II Huskies. They dropped 8-5 and 8-6 sets at second and third doubles, respectively, and came very close at No. 6 singles, where Becky Schneider (Sr., Larchmont, N.Y. / Mamaroneck) fell 1-6, 6-4, (7-10).

The Scots are now off until beginning their MIAC schedule Feb. 21 against St. Thomas.
