Complete Great Scot Invitational results
Macalester claimed four first-place finishes in five swimming events to get the two-day Great Scot Invitational off to an excellent start Friday night at Riley Pool. The Scots added four second-place performances Saturday.
The Scots went up against Grinnell (Ia.), Hamline, Carroll (Wis.) and for Saturday's events, Carleton. There were also divers from St. Catherine, Luther (Ia.), St. Olaf and UW-River Falls.
Grace Fleming (So., Northampton, Mass.) posted the first of two Mac individual first-place individual finishes when she won the 500-yard freestyle (5:29.07). Teammate
Karoline Hart (So., Rexford, N.Y. / Niskayuna) placed first in the 50 freestyle (25.89).
The Scots also won both relays Friday.
Winning the 200-yard freestyle relay to begin the meet were Hart,
Anna Gajewski (Sr., Wausau, Wis. / East),
Sarah Ellerton (Sr., Suffield, Conn. / Suffield Academy) and
Suzanne Oh (Fy., Waukesha, Wis.) with a 1:45.00 time. Taking the 400-yard medley relay to close out the evening were
Claire Eder (Jr., Evanston, Ill. / Evanston Township), Hart,
Clare Pillsbury (So., Baraboo, Wis.) and Gajewski with a 4:23.12 clocking.
On Saturday, Hart produced second-place efforts in both the 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.09) and 200 breast (2:30.92).
Hillary Frey (So., Portland, Ore. / St. Mary's Academy) placed second in the 400-yard individual medley (4:59.28) and Fleming took third in the 1650-yard freestyle (19:42.22).
Right behind Frey in the 400 IM were Pillsbury in fourth (5:05.64) and Fleming in fifth (5:10.32). Behind Hart in the 200 breaststroke were Frey in fifth (2:40.92) and
Hannah Fong (So., Altedena, Calif. / Westridge) in sixth (2:43.31).
Ellerton placed fifth in the 200 freestyle (2:07.67) and 10th of 40 entrants in the 100 free (58.25). Eder finished sixth in the 100 backstroke (1:05.87) and seventh in the 200 back (2:21.00).
Mac placed runner-up in the 800-yard freestyle relay (8:22.03) behind the swims of sophomores Fleming, Hart, Frey and Pillsbury.
The Scots are now off until a Jan. 9 dual meet at St. Olaf.
