Maddie Mette makes All-America team

The 2009 adidas / NSCAA Division III women's soccer All-America team

Macalester senior defender Maddie Mette (Burnsville, Minn.) has been selected to the adidas / National Soccer Coaches Association (NSCAA) Division III All-America team after leading the Scots to a 14-6-2 record and to the second round of the NCAA championship playoffs. She is a second team selection.

Mette was a four-year starter for the Scots and started all 79 Macalester matches since the start of the '06 campaign. She led a veteran defense which allowed just 22 goals in 22 games, and also had a goal and three assists.

Mette received All-MIAC honors as a junior and senior after picking up honorable mention all-conference honors as a first-year and sophomore. During her four seasons leading the Macalester defense, the Scots gave up less than a goal per game while posting 35 shutouts in 79 games.

Mac has landed a player on the adidas / NSCAA All-America team in 17 of the last 18 years and over the past 24 years the Scots have had at least one All-American 22 times. Macalester All-America women's soccer players are: Karen Moen (1986-87), Corie Curtis (1988-89-90), Jenny Scanlon (1992-93-94), Jennie Haire (1985), Nikki Epperson (1995), Eva Farkas (1996), Brook Epperson (1996-97), Kate Ryan Reiling (1997-98-99), Tawni Epperson (1998), Holly Harris (1999), Amanda Cue (2000), Lisa Bauer (2001-02-03) and Erin Hoople (2004), Annie Borton (2004-05-06), Grace King (2007) and Maddie Mette (2009).

Mette is one of three MIAC players to receive All-America honors, along with third-team picks Sam Johnson of Concordia and Kirsten Moran of St. Thomas.
