Macalester vs. Wisconsin-River Falls statistics
Wisconsin-River Falls drove the length of the court and converted a layup with 0.5 seconds to play to earn a 68-67 come-from-behind victory over the Scots, who led nearly the entire way before suffering their third narrow loss on the young season Tuesday at Macalester's Leonard Center. The Scots, who lost a pair of close games last weekend in the Pacific Northwest, are 0-3 on the campaign, while River Falls moves up to 4-0.
Macalester scored the game's first four points, led by 14 with 12:14 left in the second half, and didn't trail until the Falcons rallied to go up 65-64 with :51 left on the clock. The Scots hung tough and regained the advantage twice, the first time on a
Jessica Rene (So., Eau Claire, Wis. / Memorial) jumper with :25 left and later on a free throw by
Danielle Johnson (Sr., DeForest, Wis. / Madison Edgewood) with seven seconds to go.
However, UWRF's Tiffany Gregorich, who led all scorers with 19 points on a 7-for-8 shooting effort, drove to the hoops and converted a tough inside shot to end the exciting game. The Falcons shot 60 percent in the second half (18-for-30) and pulled down 18 offensive rebounds, compared to five for Macalester.
Rene paced the Scots with 14 points, going 5-for-7 from the floor, and
Ann Baltzer (Sr., Bismarck, N.D.) added 13 points for the balanced Macalester attack.
Maggie Wood (So., Oregon, Wis. / Madison Edgewood) nailed 3-of-4 from behind the three-point line and finished with 11 points.
The Scots were 9-for-19 on three-pointers and 18-for-24 from the foul line.
From here on it, every Mac contest with be an MIAC contest, starting with a game next Wednesday (Dec. 2) at St. Mary's.
