Macalester wins four events Roger Ahlman Invitational

The Scots swam to four first-place performances and finished fourth at the Macalester Roger Ahlman Invitational at the Leonard Center Riley Pool Saturday. St. Thomas won the meet with 445 points, while Concordia-Moorhead (348) beat St. Catherine (334) and Mac (303) for the runner-up spot.

Grace Fleming (So., Northampton, Mass.) led the way for Macalester by winning a pair of events, the 500-yard freestyle (5:32.62) and 200 freestyle (2:03.90). Clare Pillsbury (So., Baraboo, Wis.) won the 400-yard individual medley (4:58.87) and Karoline Hart (So., Rexford, N.Y. / Niskayuna) took top honors in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.78).

Hart added a runner-up finish in the 50 free (25.68) and Fleming was second to Pillsbury in the 400 IM (5:00.93). Pillsbury was also third in the 200 breaststroke (2:42.03). Claire Eder (Jr., Evanston, Ill. / Evanston Township) placed second in the 200 back (2:20.43) and also was fourth in the 100 backstroke (1:05.83).

Kate Vermann (Jr., Bronx, N.Y. / Fieldston School) placed third in the 1000-yard freestyle (12:15.10). Hart added a third-place finish in the 200 IM (2:21.00), just ahead of fourth-place finisher Pillsbury (2:22.83).

Macalester placed second in the 400-yard freestyle behind the swims of Fleming, Anna Gajewski (Sr., Wausau, Wis. / East), Hart and Sarah Ellerton (Sr., Suffield, Conn. / Suffield Academy).

Macalester hosts the two-day Great Scot Invitational Dec. 4-5 at Riley Pool for its next competition.
