The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 5 women's soccer teams have been announced and Macalester defender and team captain Kelsey Speer (Sr., Madison, Wis. / West) has received third-team honors, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Top student-athletes from non-Division I programs in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ontario and Manitoba are eligible for inclusion on the District 5 team. Selection to this team is based on a combination of athletic and academic achievement. A total of 119 college division student-athletes were nominated from District 5 institutions.

CoSida
Speer is Biology major at Macalester and has compiled a 3.91 cumulative grade point average. She is a three-year starter and four-year regular for a team that has made the MIAC playoffs in each of the past four seasons. Speer and the Macalester defense had surrendered just 16 goals in 18 games.

The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District team is part of the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America program, administered by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) a 2,000-member organization consisting of sports public relations professionals for colleges and universities in the United States and Canada. The Academic All-America program annually honors over 1600 student-athletes who have succeeded at the highest level on the playing field and in the classroom.
