Track & field teams help battle hunger with community service project

For the past two years, the Macalester track and field team has volunteered at “Feed My Starving Children,” a non-profit Christian organization devoted to fighting world hunger and starvation. Earlier this month, on Jan. 14th and Jan. 21st, the team volunteered for service at the local FMSC in St. Paul.

With thousands of children dying from malnutrition across the globe, FMSC tries to combat it with their low-cost, food scientist approved meals of rice, soy, dehydrated vegetables, and 20 vitamins and minerals. The organization relies heavily on donations and the efforts of volunteers, who hand pack the food, which is later shipped to over 80 countries.

Helping out at FMSC has been a great way for the Macalester team to serve the global community as well as solidify team bonds during J-term preseason. The Scots look forward to continuing working with FMSC in the future.
