Macalester vs. St. Catherine statistics
St. Catherine broke a 59-59 tie on a layup with :48 to play, and went 4-for-4 on free throws in the final 17 seconds to hand Macalester a 65-62 loss Monday night at the Leonard Center. St. Kate's advances to 9-5 overall, 6-5 in the MIAC, while Macalester's second straight heart-breaking defeat drops to Scots to 8-6 on the year and 6-5 in MIAC play.
The Scots, who lost in the final three seconds two days earlier against Carleton, received 18 points from
Danielle Johnson (Jr., DeForest, Wis. / Madison Edgewood) to lead all scorers. Johnson tied the game with a three-pointer with 2:42 remaining, and then hit a long three-pointer at :11 to pull the Scots to within a single point.
Joining Johnson in double figures was
Trina PaStarr (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn. / Southwest) with 14 points.
Majra Mucic (So., Zenica, Bosnia / St. Louis Park, Minn.)) contributed nine points and six rebounds off the bench.
Laura Kalbfell paced the Wildcats with 15 points. Jessica Arechigo scored six of her 12 points in the final minute, giving CSC the lead for good with a layup at :48 and then canning a pair of clutch free throws at :17 and :10. St. Catherine was 15-for-18 on the night from the charity stripe for an 84% mark.
Brooke Hakanson had 11 points and eight boards, and Jenna Olson dished out four assists to go along with three steals.
The Scots will attempt to keep their conference record over .500 when they travel to Winona on Wednesday (Jan. 21) to take on St. Mary's.
