Kim Chandler announces the hiring of
Steve Murray as the Deno Fitness Center Coordinator and Strength & Conditioning Coach at the Leonard Center.
Murray fills the newly-created position as Macalester College opens up its brand new $45 million Leonard Center, which features one of the finest fitness centers and weight-lifting facilities among all NCAA Division III colleges in the nation. He began his duties at Macalester on August 28.
His duties include organizing the Deno Fitness Center, supervising and teaching proper techniques for training on the new equipment, supervising student workers, and working with WHAM (Wellness & Health at Macalester) on campus-wide health and wellness initiatives. Murray will organize strength training and programmatic needs for the varsity athletic teams, and provide athletic training consultation for athletes rehabilitating injuries.
Murray attended the University of Minnesota, where he played football and graduated with a degree in Sports Management (with in minor in Business) in 2002 and earned his Masters of Business Administration from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in 2004. He is certified by the National Strength and Conditioning Association and is currently the owner of Elite Fitness LLC in Minneapolis. He has also assisted Adaptive Health Solutions with consulting.
Murray has significant experience in the health, wellness and personal training field. He has also worked in strength and conditioning at three other Division III institutions – Hamline University in St. Paul, Marietta College in Ohio, and most recently at Augsburg College in Minneapolis.
