Young takes 6th in 200 IM at MIAC championships

Nathan Young (Fy., Denver, Colo., / Littleton) placed sixth in the 200-yard individual medley finals to lead the way for the Scots at the first of three days of the MIAC championships at the University of Minnesota Aquatics Center. After establishing a school-record 1:57.47 clocking in the prelims in the afternoon, Young reached the wall in sixth in the finals with a 1:58.19. He was the only frosh to reach the finals in this event.

Macalester stands in seventh place after the first night of competition in Minneapolis.

The Scots placed fifth in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:29.01). Relay team members were Young, Seth McIntire (Jr., Seattle, Wash. / Garfield), Mitch Stepleton (So., Boulder, Colo. / Fairview) and Jeff Yamashita (Fy., Honolulu, Hi. / Iolani School).

Stepleton reached the consolation finals in the 500-yard freestyle and was 12th overall by taking fourth in the consolations (4:54.60).

The second day in the three-day competition begins tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. with preliminary rounds and continues with the finals at 7 p.m.
