Reed Larson & Josh Boomgaarden make CoSida / ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 5 team

ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District teams

Reed Larson
Macalester College offensive linemen Reed Larson (Sr., Coon Rapids, Minn.) and linebacker Josh Boomgaarden (Jr. Eden Prairie, Minn.) have been selected to the CoSida / ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Five team. Both are first team selections and as such, will go forward for consideration for Academic All-America honors.

The award is sponsored and voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSida). To be eligible for academic all-district honors, a candidate must achieve the highest levels of success both in the classroom and on the field. Competition is stiff because candidates are nominated from all Division II and III schools (as well as NAIA) from the states of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana.

Larson and Boomgaarden are two of just 13 players from Minnesota colleges and universities to receive first-team college division honors. Larson majors in Chemistry at Macalester and has earned
a 3.90 cumulative grade point average. Boomgaarden is an Economics major with a 3.91 cumulative GPA.

Josh Boomgarden
Larson is a three-year starter for the Scots at offensive guard. In his junior season he blocked for an offense which scored 62 points twice and this year leads an offensive line which has allowed just 10 sacks for the 4-5 Scots.

Boomgaarden has started all nine Macalester games at the linebacker position and with a game to go in the season, leads the Scots with 64 t tackles on the season (27 solo stops and 37 assisted tackles) and has 4 ½ tackles for loss of yardage. He registered a career-high 10 tackles in an overtime win over St. Scholastica.
