Complete Macalester vs. Wisconsin-River Falls results
Macalester began its 2008-09 season on a winning note, beating Wisconsin-River Falls 153-127 in a non-conference dual meet at River Falls High School. Macalester took top finishes in 11 out of 16 events.
Jeff Yamashita (So., Honolulu, Hi. / Iolani) won two freestyle races and a butterfly event to lead the way for the Scots. He placed first in the 50-yard freestyle (24.02), the 100 freestyle (51.37) and 100-yard butterfly (58.30). Yamahita also anchored the winning 200-yard medley relay.
Jens Tamang (So., Portland, Ore. / Catlin Gabel) won 1-meter diving (76.12) and 3-meter diving (69.55).
Mitch Stepleton (Jr., Boulder, Colo. / Fairview) and
Nathan Young (So., Denver, Colo. / Littleton) were also double event winners. Stepleton placed first in the 200 freestyle (1:59.50) and 500 freestyle (5:38.43), while Young reached the wall first in the 100 backstroke (56.55) and 200 back (2:02.70).
Yamashita was joined on the winning 200-yard medley relay team (1:48.87) by Young,
Bobbi Gass, Jr., Bellingham, Wash.) and
Emmett Costel (Sr., Maputo, Mozambique / Monona). Mac also won the 400 freestyle relay (3:32.09) behind the swims of Stepleton,
Paco Venneri (Fy., Los Alamos, N.M.),
Seth McIntire (Sr., Seattle, Wash. / Garfield) and Young.
