Mac raises $2,200 to fight breast cancer

Macalester's Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) and the athletic department helped raise over $2,200 to fight breast cancer during Dig Pink / Kick Cancer Night on Friday, October 3 during home Macalester volleyball and women's soccer matches.

The money raised during the events and will be donated to local and national Breast Cancer foundations to raise awareness, educate women and aid research that will hopefully result in a cure for this dreaded disease. SAAC and the athletic department would like to extend a great big thank-you to everyone who came out to support the teams and added to these donations.

As part of volleyball's national Dig Pink program, Macalester raised just under $1,500 for the Side-Out Foundation during the Macalester vs. Bethel match. This includes donations at the game, a silent auction, and on-line donations. At the Macalester soccer match with St. Benedict going on at the same time, about $750 was raised for the Susan G. Komen Foundation. This includes donations at the game and a halftime raffle.

As part of the event, Macalester volleyball and soccer teams wore pink uniforms, donated to them for this event from The Volleyball Warehouse, Soccer Express and Diadora.

In all, $2,203.34 was raised during the events and will be donated to local and national Breast Cancer foundations to raise awareness, educate women and aid research that will hopefully result in a cure for this dreaded disease.
