Evan Mitchell (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn. / South) won his third javelin throw title to lead the way for Macalester Friday and Saturday at the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) championships at Hamline University.
Mitchell got the meet off to a great start for the Scots, winning the first event of the day Friday afternoon. He become's Macalester's first three-time MIAC outdoor track and field champ since Kajerero Ssebaale placed first in the triple jump four straight times (1999-2002). Mitchell needed just one throw to clinch first place as he tossed the javelin an all-time best 59.13 meters (194-0) on his first attempt in his preliminary round. No competitor the rest of the day got to within 19 feet of that mark.
In addition to his first-place finish in the javelin, Mitchell also placed sixth in the hammer throw finals (134-11 / 47.22m). Macalester also picked up a sixth-place finish from
Kyle Hamblett (Fy., Paris, France / American School) in the 200-meter dash (22.87).
Wade Eckstrom (So., La Crescent, Minn.) ran to a seventh-place finish in the 1500-meter run (3:59.33).

Tyson Morgan (Jr., Lewiston, Me.),
Will Kennedy (Sr., San Anselmo, Calif. / The Branson School),
Josh Springer (Sr., Portland, Ore. / Cleveland) and Eckstrom.
