Macalester makes strong showing at Carleton

Complete Carleton Pre-MIAC Meet results

Andrew Yokom (Jr., Arden Hills, Minn. / Mounds View) and Kyle Hamblett (Fy., Paris, France / American School of Paris) finished one-two in the 55-meter dash finals to lead the way for Macalester in the final tune-up for next weekend's MIAC indoor championships, the Carleton College Pre-MIAC Meet in Northfield. The Scots competed with Gustavus, St. Mary's, Bethel and host-Carleton.

Yokom won his heat (6.62) and placed first in the finals (6.59). Hamblett, running in his first collegiate meet since finishing the season as a starting guard on the Mac basketball team, was right behind Yokom in his heat (6.70) and finals (6.64). Teammate Kevin Williams (Jr., Jamaica) nearly made it a one-two-three Macalester sweep, placing fourth in the finals (6.76) after winning his heat (6.73).

Several other Scots had big nights.

Yokom added a third-place 200-meter dash finish (23.13). Three Scots were near the front end of the mile run. Martin Mudry (Jr., University Heights, Ohio) led the trio, placing second (4:29.66). Matt Wegmann (Sr., North Oaks, Minn. / Mounds View) placed third (4:31.23) and Dyle Dybvig (Fy., Osceola, Wis.) was fourth (4:34.93).
Tyson Morgan (Jr., Lewiston, Me.) (2:36.69) and Josh Springer (Sr., Portland, Ore. / Cleveland) (2:37.33) finished second and third, respectively, in the 1000 meters.

Martin Stenman Andersson (So., Uppsala, Sweden / IT Gymnasiet Uppsala) earned a second-place finish in the long jump (20-0 ¼ / 6.10m) as he preps for next week's MIAC heptathlon. Evan Mitchell (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn. / South) took second in the weight throw (46-8 ¾ / 14.24m) and fourth in the shot put (42-8 / 13.00m).

Kyle Braam (Sr., Burnsville, Minn.) ran to a second-place finish in the 3K (9:24.54). Alex Rosselli (So., Columbus, Ind. / North) placed fourth in the 55-meter hurdle finals (8.27).

The MIAC indoor championships are set for this Friday and Saturday (March 7-8) at St. John's University in Collegeville. Events begin Friday at 5 p.m. and Saturday at 12 noon.
