Macalester competes at U of M Snowshoe Open

Complete Snowshoe Open meet results on Raceberry Jam

Macalester took on strong competition at the 13-team University of Minnesota Snowshoe Open in Minneapolis. The meet was not team-scored and featured teams from Mac, the U of M, Minnesota State-Mankato, St. Cloud State, St. Thomas, Augsburg, Hamline, Bethel, UW-River Falls, UW-Superior, Northwestern, UM-Duluth, Northwestern and Concordia-St. Paul. The Minnesota Gophers dominated many of the events they were entered in.

Three Scots raced under the nine-minute mark in the 3000-meter run to lead the way.

Martin Mudry (Jr., University Heights, Ohio) paced the Macalester pack, placing a team-best eighth on the evening in this 25-runner event (8:56.28). His time was third-best among Division III entrants and is eighth-best on the team all-time honor roll. Matt Wegmann (Sr., North Oaks, Minn. / Mounds View) made a strong late run to finish right behind Mudry in ninth (8:56.65). Tim Burns (Jr., Neenah, Wis.) placed 12th (8:59.68).

The Scots also entered three fast runners in the 800 meters. Josh Springer (Sr., Portland, Ore. / Cleveland) led the trio, placing 11th out of 26 (2:00.08). Will Kennedy (Sr., San Anselmo, Calif. / Branson School) was right behind in 14th (2:00.67) and Tyson Morgan (Jr., Lewiston, Me.) placed 17th (2:02.18).

Andrew Yokom (Jr., Arden Hills, Minn. / Mounds View) placed second in his 60-meter dash heat (7.20), just missing out by .09 on making the finals, which were won by U of M All-America sprinter Ibrahim Kabia. Kevin Williams (Jr., Jamaica) crossed the line in 7.28 in his heat. Williams was also 11th best out of 27 in the 200-meter dash (23.56). Alex Rosselli (So., Columbus, Ind. / North) barely missed out on the 60-meter high hurdle finals by .05 (8.81) in an event which saw just one D3 hurdler reach the finals.

The Scots travel to Northfield Friday on Leap Day for the Pre-MIAC Meet at Carleton. Then it's the MIAC Championships March 7-8 at St. John's.
